Cleveland Texas mass shooting: Search continues for Francisco Oropesa, San Jacinto County suspect accused of killing neighbors

Cleveland, Texas (KTRK) – The search for the man accused of killing his neighbors in San Jacinto County has entered a third day. Authorities say Francisco Oropesa remains at large and is considered extremely dangerous.

Oropesa is accused of shooting and killing five people, including a student at Northside Elementary School.

ABC13 reporter Charlie Edcity spoke to Principal Pete Armstrong, who with tears in his eyes stopped at the growing memorial outside the school.

Monday will be a very difficult day for all students and staff, Armstrong said. Counselors will be on campus to help those struggling with the loss of a classmate, who has been identified as third grader Daniel Enrique Lazo Guzman.

ORIGINAL REPORT: Francisco Oropeza, a suspect in the Cleveland mass shooting, was warned by deputies not to shoot from his yard

Daniel Enrique was among five people shot dead over the weekend in an incident that investigators say was caused by a row over noise between neighbours.

Oropesa is accused of opening fire on the family inside their home in neighboring San Jacinto County after someone told the suspect to stop firing his gun because an infant was trying to sleep.

This obviously angered the suspect, and that’s when he allegedly shot. At least 10 people were inside the house at the time.

The other four victims were three women – ages 21, 25 and 31 – and an 18-year-old man. All of them are from Honduras.

An $80,000 reward is now being offered for Oropesa’s capture.

The search is getting more intense as more law enforcement agencies join. San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers spoke about what’s going to happen.

“Sunday we had over 150 police officers looking for the suspect. Today, they are over 200, and more officers are coming to help us find this suspect. My number one priority is to find him, as everyone who is here is looking for him,” he said. Kabir.

Investigators found Oropesa’s clothing and cell phone lying in a wooded area over the weekend.

Police described him as 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds with a distinctive tattoo of a woman on his arm.

If you see Oropesa, we urge you to contact the police.

A GoFundMe page created for Sonia Guzman and Daniel Enrique. Family members told ABC13 that they wanted to use the money to send the victims to Honduras for burial.
