American Idol 2023: Top 5 Lionel Richie Roles Revealed, Katy Perry Welcomes King Charles III to Broadcast

Hollywood – “American Idol” had two very special guests for this week’s episode.

We knew Katy Perry and Lionel Richie traveled across the pond to attend the coronation of King Charles III. Little did we know that Richie would convince the newly crowned monarch to appear on the reality competition show!

“He made it happen and it was a surprise to me today,” said executive producer Megan Wolflick. “I’ve been on the show for 20 years and I’ve never had a day as weird as today.”

Host Ryan Seacrest agreed.

“It was the most outlandish thing I ever saw in my life, and the fact that Lionel and Katie were borrowing some rooms in Windsor Castle until the wee hours of the morning, good for them!”

With Perry and Richie gone, Luke Bryan left two empty seats on the judges panel.

The show enlisted Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran to step in and complete the judging panel.

Before we get to know which singers America voted into its Top 5, we heard from the top 8 of the season: Colin Staff, Heaven Madison, Iam Tonji, Megan Daniel, Oliver Steele, Warren Peay, Wee Annie, and Zacharias Smith.

Each of them performs twice.

First, a cover of a song from Morissette’s famous songbook. Then, the eight finalists were paired off for duets of hit songs from Sheeran’s catalogue.

When the votes were counted, Haven Madison, Warren Peay and Oliver Steele were all eliminated.

All three contestants said this was a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience.

“The friendships, the exposure, I mean, everything about this has only been positive,” Madison said.

B agreed.

“It’s so cool to be a part of this thing and just be the relationships we’ve built, the opportunities that are in front of us…Now the real work begins.”

How many other people would experience something like this in their lifetime? Steele said. “I think it’s absolutely incredible.”

For the singers going home, this is just the beginning of what’s to come.

“I’m really going to start playing some more shows, keep writing music, and I’m looking forward to getting some stuff here soon, and you’ll all be seeing me,” said Pei.

For Steele, a little piece of home would also be nice.

“I have more music to share with people. I have friends at home waiting for me to work with and I miss them so much. So I’m excited to keep moving forward,” said Steele.

Meanwhile, Madison hits the ground running.

“I have a studio in my house, so I’m going to be releasing a lot of music. I’m going to be all over social media, and I’m looking forward to touring. I want to share with the world!” Madison said.

Next week is Disney Night!

Singer and actress Sofia Carson will guide the top five as they journey to the happiest place on Earth.

Disney is the parent company of this ABC station.
