HPD says the speeding driver crashes into the Clear Lake home, starting a fire

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Police reported that a driver lost control and crashed into a home in the Clear Lake area overnight, starting a fire.

The accident occurred around 12:15 a.m. Friday at a home on Manorhill Road, in a neighborhood near Interstate 3 and El Camino Boulevard.

When Houston fire officials got to the home, they found a wrecked sedan front first. Flames were shooting from the roof but firefighters quickly put them out.

The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The HFD said no one inside the house was hurt.

Investigators are looking into whether or not alcohol plays a factor. The driver was reportedly speeding before losing control for unknown reasons and crashing into the house.

Neighbors described the moment of impact.

“I heard some crashes and crashes, and then I heard the big crash of the car going into the house. It really scared me. I was worried someone might be hit,” said Judy Verdusco. “I grabbed my husband and said, ‘Hey, let’s go out.'” I think there was a bad accident. We need to go help. “

Officials said a firefighter had to go to the hospital with minor injuries to his hand.

Given the damage, it’s a miracle no one was seriously hurt.
