Last week, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was shown to fans and critics at the Cannes Film Festival. It was the first time the film had been released to audiences, and there was a lot of anticipation during the fifth – and final – film in the franchise.
After the film finished, director James Mangold, Harrison Ford, and the rest of the cast attended a press conference to discuss the picture.
During this time, Ford responded to the criticism the film has received thus far, including comments about the extensive use of CGI during its adventure.
The trailer for The Dial of Destiny left fans divided when it hit online, as it showed the titular hero pulled away from age with Disney CGI magic, returning 80-year-old Harrison Ford to his 40-something persona.
Ford defended the practice during the press conference, saying, “I know that’s my face. It’s not some kind of Photoshop magic—that’s what I looked like 35 years ago.”

Ford explained that Lucasfilm accomplished this graphic work using footage and data shot across the previous four Indiana Jones films, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“Lucasfilm has every frame of the films we’ve made together over all these years,” he said. “This process, this scientific excavation of this library, is very well laid out [use]. “
Ford added that CGI was added as a way to expand the narrative, rather than as a gimmick.
Ford continued, “It’s just a hoax unless it’s backed up by a story, and it stays like a sore thumb if it’s not honest, it’s not real… I mean, emotionally real. And so I think it was used.” [in the Dial of Destiny] very skillfully.”
The American actor has run to the defense of his latest movie, Indiana Jones, after comments slammed the photo for being “uneven.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is awarded a measly 52 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, which puts it in the “rotten” category on the site.
Reviews panned the film, and Variety called the picture “unfun” overall.
Collider agreed, calling it “not perfect, with uneven storytelling”.
Meanwhile, Empire said, “If you join him on this journey, it will be a fitting farewell to cinema’s favorite gravester.”
