After seven years in development, Dyson returns to the robot vacuum market with the Dyson 360 Vis Nav – a new smart product that purifies the air in your home while it cleans your floors.
Launched in Australia first, the new Dyson 360 Vis Nav gets its name from an advanced 360-degree vision system that works in conjunction with a high-level processor to map your home, sense dust and identify problem areas that require extra attention.
Combined with 26 additional sensors, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is able to avoid obstacles and detect your distance from walls and furniture with impressive accuracy.
Powered by a newly redesigned Hyperdymium motor that can reach up to 110,000 rpm, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is capable of drawing up to 65 air watts. According to Dyson, this is nearly six times more powerful than any other robot vacuum to date.
The Dyson 360 Vis Nav also has a D-shaped body with a flat front edge, which allows it to reach right into corners and skirt along the edges to extract dirt from hard-to-reach places that other round robot vacuums can’t manage.
Inside that flat leading edge is a triple-action brush bar—a mix of sorts that combines soft “fluffy” nylon for large debris, antistatic carbon fiber strands for fine dust, and finally stiff nylon bristles to go deep into carpeted areas.
On top of that, Vis Nav features a soft silicone lip on its right side that digs into the edges to absorb dirt without scraping walls or baseboards.
While many vacuums blow out quite a bit of fine dust as they’re lifted, the inclusion of a HEPA filter (capable of capturing 99.99% of particles as fine as 0.1 micron) allows the Dyson 360 Vis Nav to pump out truly clean air.
The 360 Vis Nav system offers four suction modes: Auto, which dynamically adjusts its suction based on your home’s surfaces and dust level, Fast, for small areas, Quiet, which keeps loudness to a minimum, and Boost, which applies maximum suction.
A touch screen on the device can be used to cycle through suction modes, with added control via the recently updated MyDyson app, which lets you view a map of your home (complete with detailed dust reports) and set no-go zones as well.
In terms of battery life, Dyson says the 360 Vis Nav can run for up to 50 minutes in Auto mode, but only about 5-8 minutes in Boost mode. The good news is that the 360 Vis Nav can automatically dock itself for charging, though you’ll have to empty your trash yourself. Fortunately, the 360 Vis Nav’s container can be extracted and emptied with one hand.
While Dyson’s new device is undoubtedly one of the most advanced robot vacuums we’ve ever seen, it doesn’t come cheap – the Dyson 360 Vis Nav will launch at AU$2,399 (about $1,599 / £1,285), which is pills. Contraceptive hard to swallow vacuum cleaner that does not self-empty and does not provide a mopping function.
However, Aussies at least won’t have to wait long – the Dyson 360 Vis Nav will be available to buy from Dyson store Starting May 25th. We expect US and UK releases to follow later in the year.
