West Rockhill TWP. , Pennsylvania – Her parents in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, were charged with multiple crimes after their seven children were found living in deplorable conditions.

The participating children are between 16 and 4 years old only.

The investigation began with a report of children entering an abandoned trailer on April 23 at the Green Top Trailer Park, the Penridge Regional Police Department said in a news release Thursday.

Police found a 12-year-old girl, who told officers she was taking a blanket to warm her mice because her family didn’t have much money left.

While they were talking, a 14-year-old girl appeared from behind the property. Police say the girl was not dressed appropriately, noting that the 14-year-old was wearing clothes that looked dirty.

When the officers brought the children to their parents, who live in the trailer next door, police said they found “miserable” living conditions and a refrigerator secured with a padlock.

According to the affidavit, Crystal Robertson told police the lock was there because children “steal” food and described the children as “trash cans with legs.”

Police later returned with a Bucks County Children and Youth Investigator and found four more children hiding in a back bedroom.

Officers say they found feces in several places in the house, and some walls and floors were in poor condition.

About twenty mice were found in cages. Many other animals, including dogs and snakes, are also found.

Police said the living conditions were found to be “fundamentally unsanitary and unsafe”, and the children were taken into protective custody.

Police said medical evaluation of the children at the hospital found that most of them were malnourished and some of the children had poor kidney function.

Two of the children had to have their heads shaved due to the heavy matting, and worms were found in the hair of one of these children.

Police said two of the children required “intensive” dental treatment, and some of the children required eyeglasses.

During the investigation, the police said that none of the seven children had gone to school and lacked basic knowledge. Many of them did not know their birthday.

Police said the children displayed social anxiety, and allegedly told officials they did not like being in public or with other people.

The Robertsons are free after posting a 10% bail of $100,000.
