Man charged with murder after leading chase in victim's car: HPD

Aleph, TX (KTRK) – One of three men accused of stealing a murder victim’s car and leading the police in pursuit is now charged with first degree murder.

Houston police said Josian Bennett, 19, killed the 28-year-old victim in the Aleph area and stole his car. The victim was reportedly found with his pockets turned out.

HPD responded to another person’s call at an apartment complex at 9903 South Dairy Ashford Road at 12:10 p.m. Thursday. At the scene, they find the victim dead from a gunshot wound.

Police later spotted Bennett and two suspects in the stolen vehicle, the Missouri Police Department said, leading to a chase that ended in an accident at Sugar Land.

The three suspects fled on foot after the incident but were caught and detained behind a Whole Foods restaurant.

While Bennett faces a murder charge, police said two of his accomplices are charged with evading arrest in Fort Bend County.

Officials did not identify the other suspects.

The victim has not been identified, but police said he was a Hispanic man in his 30s.
