Fiber Lines in Your Lawn: What Can You Do About It?

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – How would you like the building crews to appear on your home and install fiber lines on your property? That’s what happened to Clarence Davis, who called ABC13.

“I came here a couple of days ago, and I found this huge wire sticking out of our backyard,” said Davis, who lives in Oak Ridge North.

“I knocked on the door, and the doorbell rang. Sir, can we do what we do?” “Sure, go ahead,” I said, and then I found out we were going to have a cable box in our backyard. I called the HOA. Is this legal? “

In Texas, utility and telecommunications companies can erect lines and poles in utility easements.

It’s a way to give businesses access to private property so that crews can run straight lines through neighborhoods instead of touring homes.

The fiber lines in the Davis yard are from Comcast, which is expanding its network in the Oak Ridge North region and in Kingwood, Pinehurst, Prairie View, Waller, New Caney and Conroe.

“I don’t appreciate buying a piece of property and then being told I have to let these people on my property at any time,” Davis said.

Davis says he has little recourse.

The workers would go back outside to finish the work in his yard.

“The electrocution is immediate and irreversible,” he said. “So there’s the line, and I’m still exploring options.”
