Alex Levinale Reveals The Words That Inspired Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Exclusive)

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Bring a whole new world to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the introduction of the animal-rich underwater kingdom of Talokan, and with it a whole new world of characters. While Namor, King of the Talokan is a major character in the movie, so is the Talokanil warrior Attuma. Played by Alex Livinalli, Attuma is pretty much a force to be reckoned with, going toe-to-toe with Okoye (Danai Gurrira) in battle. Levinale said that Levinale’s opinion of Attuma marks the character’s first live-action appearance, and while there are differences between the MCU’s Attuma and the character on the pages of Marvel Comics. ComicBook.comThere were aspects of comics that he kept in mind throughout his performance – including character comics and subtle titles.

Levinale spoke with Nicole Drome of ComicBook.com, saying she tried to incorporate Mayan translations of Atuma’s comic book names into the film, and while they didn’t fit organically in the end, they were on his mind throughout the performance — and he really wishes he could. I gave that to the fans.

“We’ve been working on it for a really long time and one of the things that helped me create this Attuma environment, yeah, was dialogue in the scenario where Mayan came from my character, but there was a lot of conversation I had [with the language coach] Where it was like, listen, for me, as the creation of this character, for the inner monologues that happen in the moments where I’m like, whether I’m talking or not, there are things I want to say based on what happened on the script. And I also say, “Hey, how do I say, I’m atoma?” How do I tell this person, go here, go there? Not necessarily because they were lines I was going to say, but there were lines that I needed in my head, in the end, in order to continue living the moment, ”said Levinale.

He continued, “Something very, very cool that happened between those conversations and through my search for Attuma were Attuma’s nicknames in the comic books, The Breaker of Oceans, Lord of the Murky Depths, Lord Attuma, Attuma the Barbarian. When I found out about it, I was like, ‘Sweet , how do I do this? How do I incorporate this into Maya?” And out of all those, Breaker of Oceans, I felt like that spoke to me as a character. So, we worked on that for a while. We worked on Breaker of Oceans, Warrior of the Seas, I Am Attuma Those were three constant words, dialogues that were running through my mind when I was doing it. I really wanted to throw that into the movie when we were shooting, but there was no time, there wasn’t a moment where it was appropriate. It was going to be forced. But in my mind, I was thinking Ah, if you actually throw one of these lines in here and actual comic book fans see it, they’re going to go bananas with this one. “”

Levinale said that while he doesn’t know if he’ll return to Marvel, he’s hopeful and if he does, he’s hoping to get a chance to bring those storylines to life for fans.

“But it never happened, and I hope I get a chance to do that in the future,” he said.
