Houston, Texas (KTRK) – ABC13 has confirmed that the 12-year-old boy who survived a drunk driving accident on Wednesday night is the son of two victims.
Saul Eduardo Claros has been charged with two counts of manslaughter as a result of the incident that occurred at the intersection of Waxahachie and Boyles Streets in the Denver Harbor area of Houston on Wednesday at approximately 6 p.m.
Police say Clarus was driving when he hit an electric pole, drove through the intersection with a stop sign, and crashed into the black four-door SUV.
Court records indicate that police found a half-empty bottle of whiskey and some pills in his car after the accident.
The victims have been identified as Ricardo Pointillo, 46, and Veronica Pointillo, 38.
Jesse Barrera lives near the scene of the accident and witnessed the aftermath immediately.
“It hit me hard,” Barrera said of what he witnessed. “It just bothered me. It still bothers me.”
Vic Perez said he helped pull the 12-year-old out of the car after the accident.
“We took him out and put him on the ground because he was in pain,” Perez said. “It’s too late for parents, unfortunately.”
Perez said this serves as a reminder to keep your loved ones close.
He said “just to be more careful”. “Just hug your kids.”
Clarus is currently emerging from a $150,000 bond and is due back in court on Monday.
The Houston Police Department added that this fatal crash serves as a grim reminder to use transportation services if you find yourself in a situation where you cannot safely operate a vehicle after consuming too much alcohol.
