Annapolis — Three people were killed and three wounded in a shooting Sunday night at a home in the Maryland state capital, police said.

Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson told reporters at a briefing that the shooting came from what he described as a “personal dispute” and that there was no other threat to the public.

“It’s a very active and fluid investigation. We’re still trying to work out everything that happened. We’re still piecing it together. We have a lot of work to do,” Jackson said.

He declined to go into details of the relationship between the people involved but said the dead ranged in age from their twenties to fifties. He said that the authorities have not determined a firm motive for the shooting.

“It wasn’t random,” Jackson said, noting that the victims “died outside” the home.

Several police cars were seen in the residential area where the shooting took place, south of the city center and near the waterfront. Jackson said officers responded to gunfire around 8 p.m

The Police Department issued a press release stating that one of the injured was airlifted to a trauma center.
