A 7-year-old accidentally shoots and kills a 5-year-old in Kentucky

A 7-year-old accidentally shot and killed a 5-year-old in Kentucky on Monday, According to the Kentucky State Police.

Police were alerted to a shooting at a home in Jackson County around 5:30 p.m., where they tried unsuccessfully to rescue the child.

“No foul play is suspected,” the police statement read.

Guns are the leading cause of death among American children and teens, with firearm death rates rising 50% in just two years, according to Pew Research analysis of CDC data.

So far this year, more than 800 children and teens have been killed by guns — a number that includes homicides and suicides — according to the Gun Violence Archive.

This represents just one of the cases of accidental shootings among children this month. Earlier this month, she was a 4-year-old Accidentally killed by another child in Illinois.

A week later, a 6-year-old boy shot his infant brother twice after getting hold of a gun in Detroit. The one-year-old was rushed to hospital for his injuries, but survived.
