Detonating explosive devices and throwing Molotov cocktails at shops in Washington, DC

Explosive devices were detonated and an object resembling a Molotov cocktail was hurled outside three businesses in Washington, D.C., early Sunday morning, according to police.

The D.C. Police Department said all three incidents occurred within about 15 minutes in northeast Washington, D.C. No one was injured, but there was damage at every site.

Police said they believed the suspect was targeting businesses rather than members of the public. Both businesses were closed at that time.

Police said the suspect in the first incident detonated a device on the sidewalk outside a Trust Bank ATM at around 4:30 a.m. and then drove away. Just six minutes later, the suspect detonated an explosive device on the sidewalk in front of the Nike store.

Officials said the suspect then threw an object resembling a Molotov cocktail at Safeway around 4:45 a.m. before driving off again.

Police have released a surveillance image of a suspect and a vehicle they are looking for. The car is a gold or champagne Acura TL with Maryland plate from 17971CK.
