Russell Crowe rages on Gladiator 2 while admitting to ‘jealousy’ | Movies | entertainment

Movie fans were shocked last year when it was confirmed that Gladiator will be receiving a sequel: Gladiator 2.

Of course, this raised a number of questions towards the original film’s cast, including Russell Crowe.

The Australian actor played the protagonist Maximus Decimus Meridius in the first film and won the Best Actor Oscar in the same year for his performance.

But now, he’s made clear the scrutiny he’s been under since Gladiator 2’s announcement infuriated him.

“They should pay me for the number of questions I get asked about a movie I’m not in,” Crowe said.

Crowe was speaking at a press conference at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, where he complained about being hounded over the film. He went on to point out that his character was ceremoniously killed off at the end of the picture. (via diverse)

“I have nothing to do with it,” he explained. “In that world, I’m dead. Six feet under.”

Despite how frustrated he was at being questioned in the movie, the 59-year-old admitted he felt a lot of envy for the upcoming movie.

“I admit to a certain kind of jealousy, because it reminds me of when I was younger and what that meant to me in my life,” Crowe said.

He went on to speak extensively about the film, saying, “I don’t know anything about the cast, I don’t know anything about the plot — I’m dead!”

“But I know that if Ridley had decided to do a sequel to the story, more than 20 years later, he must have had very strong reasons. I can’t help thinking that this is anything but an amazing movie.”

Gladiator 2 is set to hit theaters in 2024, and it has an incredibly star-studded cast.

Not only is Paul Mescal starring in the film, but he will also be joined by Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, Pedro Pascal and even Matt Lucas from Stranger Things.
