A 7-year-old boy and his mother were among five people killed when a small plane crashed in South Carolina on Sunday, officials said.

Four of the five victims died at the scene after suffering multiple heat shock, Deputy Chief Coroner Tamara Willard said Wednesday. They were all from East Orange, New Jersey.
Willard said pilot Dr. Joseph Farnese, 66, was among the dead. The coroner identified the 7-year-old victim as Sean Gardner. His mother, Tanik Chew, 32, was also killed in the accident along with passenger Odyssia Edwards, 17.
Officials said the teen’s mother, 42-year-old Suzette Coleman Edwards, was taken to hospital for treatment after the crash. She died shortly after.
The FAA initially said four people were on board, but later said five people were on board when it went down.
The plane crashed in a wooded area near the road around 11 am Sunday.
After the incident, officials said the area would be closed for about two days as the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board investigated.
