When WandaVision premiered in 2021, it was so popular on Disney Plus that it outpaced The Mandalorian’s audience numbers. So it’s no shock that Agatha: Coven of Chaos is coming, a spin-off of the show that hit Earth.
And a staff member has just connected the upcoming Marvel series (expected in 2024) to its spiritual successor in an arguably literal way. Debra Jo Robb (Sharon Davis / “Mrs. Hart”) said Berkshire Mag Coven of Chaos is “WandaVision season two for Marvel.”
Rob didn’t mean that the Agatha Harkness series would be a straight-up sequel, she continues, “It’s a lot like American Horror Story, where every season is a whole new kind of thing. I was shocked when they called me, because I really thought it was going to be, and I was.” Fine with that. But when they called, I got really excited because it’s a character I’ve never played. It’s going to be so much fun.”
Hilariously, Rupp also noted that she was anxious about saying anything about the series. When asked, she said “I am terrified of these people. They are the most secretive people on earth. You are forbidden to talk about anything. I am afraid they will come and arrest me.”
Except she kept talking, saying she’d be back as “essentially the same person I was in Wandavision, Ms. Hart, but in a different kind of thing.”
Outlook: What should we expect from Agatha’s Coven of Chaos?
At this point, it’s not yet clear if the spin-off will pick up where the Scarlet Witch left off or if we’ll be traveling into the past.
The last time we saw Agatha Harkness, she was a prisoner of the mental illness prison that Wanda created. But what exactly is Agatha’s backstory that makes her worthy, albeit limited, branching out?
For example, it has lived for centuries and its origin story traces back to the Salem Witch Trials. Therefore, the series could be set during a different century, or told through the lenses of multiple flashbacks so that the audience — us — can catch up on its history and lineage.
Oh, and though the cast isn’t supposed to elaborate on the details, Rupp did talk about the production, saying “We shot in L.A., and I’m packing right now as we speak, to go to Atlanta for a couple of months to continue filming.”
Previously, we learned that Patti LuPone, Aubrey Plaza, and Joe Locke are attached to Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
