Mel Gibson breaks silence on Passion of the Christ 2’s ‘crazy acid trip’ script | Movies | entertainment

It was nearly two decades ago when Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ stormed the box office, grossing over $622 million worldwide.

The biblical saga ended with Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, and since then both director and Messiah star Jim Caviezel have been planning a long-awaited sequel focusing on the aftermath of the resurrection.

In recent years, the latter has said that the film will be a “masterpiece” and “the biggest movie in the history of the world.”

And now Gibson himself has provided an update on what’s going on with the project and has admitted that he’s in fact choosing between two scripts.

While speaking with Outstanding Screenplays, the 67-year-old was asked if a movie is coming soon.

Gibson replied, “Yeah, sooner now because it’s a huge job. You can’t do it softly and fast.”

“You have to really think about what you need to show in order to be effective.

“It can’t be linear. You have to have many things that can be juxtaposed with each other, even from different time periods, in order to explain the meaning of something in a more complete way. And I think it would be a real puzzle to do.”

Gibson continued, “And I have two scripts, one that’s very structured and one that’s very strong, more of what you’d expect, and one that’s like an acid trip.

“Because you go to other worlds and stuff. I mean, you’re in hell, and you’re watching angels fall. It’s like, crazy.”

Asked if Caviezel would repeat Jesus again, the director confirmed: “Yes, of course.”
