Get ready for weekend traffic with the big shutdown on the roads of the Houston area

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Multiple major closures around the Houston area this weekend are sure to delay traffic. Be prepared, especially if you’re traveling in the Galleria or League City areas.

I-69 Southwest Freeway

All north-south lanes of the I-69 Southwest Freeway in the I-610 West Loop will be closed starting Friday at 8 p.m.

Weekend crews will continue to demolish the old West Loop bridge northbound over I-69, TxDOT says.

Drivers will be diverted via the Mosul or Richmond rapids, but plan for delays.

All major lines must reopen by 5 am on Monday 24 July.

By this time next year, TxDOT says we should be in the main part of the year-long project, which is designed to make congested exchanges safer and ease congestion.

Gulf Expressway I-45

On Saturday, North-South Gulf I-45 from NASA Route 1 to FM-528 will be closed from 6 a.m., and multiple ramps in the area will also be affected by the closure.

All major lanes will be closed as the crew suspends a large signal bridge over the highway.

The highway is expected to reopen by Sunday afternoon.

Drivers can take Highway 3 to avoid the major closure.

Northern Freeway I-45

Also Saturday, the northern lanes on the I-45 North Freeway at I-610 North Loop will be closed from midnight until 6 p.m.

Drivers can take the Hardy Toll Road as a detour.
