NFL Honors: Texans’ CJ Stroud, Will Anderson Jr., DeMeco Ryans, Bobby Slowik up for awards; Andre Johnson could get call to Canton

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (KTRK) — The Houston Texans are bidding to become winners in a city built on visitors losing their money.

The NFL Honors ceremony in Las Vegas on Thursday, a pre-Super Bowl LVIII event, could become a banner night for the franchise that experts expected not much from this past season.

Instead, rookie stars C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr. could earn first-year awards for their sides of the ball. In addition, rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans and rookie play-caller Bobby Slowik could add some hardware to the trophy case.

PPREVIOUS STORY: CJ Stroud’s AP Offensive Rookie of the Year nomination headlines Texans up for prestigious awards

Before the ceremony, Stroud already earned the NFL fan-voted Rookie of the Year.

But arguably, the most significant thing Texans fans are watching during the night’s ceremony is whether the Pro Football Hall of Fame calls the Texans’ legendary wideout Andre Johnson to Canton, Ohio.

No. 80 is among 15 former players under consideration for enshrinement. Johnson is in his third year of eligibility and third year as a finalist. He is competing with two potential first-ballot hall-of-famers, Antonio Gates and Julius Peppers, and one player, Eric Allen, in his 18th year of eligibility.

The class of 2024 will be presented during the award ceremony set for 8 p.m. CT.

Johnson is bidding to become the first player drafted by the Houston Texans to make the hall.
