University of St. Thomas dean Mario Enzler resigns after accused of falsifying education credentials, Houston Chronicle says!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Thomas University Business School dean Mario Enzler has resigned after allegations that his educational credentials were falsified, according to ABC13 Partners at Houston Chronicle.

Enzler is accused of getting his job at a private Catholic university by lying on his resume about several degrees that apparently do not exist.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Italian university where Enzler said he earned his Ph.D. does not offer Ph.D.s, and the institution where he said he earned his bachelor’s degree is actually a high school.

Associate Professor of Accounting John E. Sims told the Houston Chronicle that several professors were concerned about Enzler’s leadership style and began checking his resume for themselves.

They accused Ensler of being an imposter and wrote a letter to the Board of Directors of St. Thomas University in April.

The faculty involved said Ensler should not have been appointed dean.

The research committee eventually decided that Enzler did not qualify for the Dean of Business, as he appeared to have a Ph.D. in music and BA in classics, the professors said in the letter. They said he was picked anyway and held that position for two years.

Thomas officials on Tuesday confirmed Ensler’s resignation to the Houston Chronicle but declined to comment on the surrounding circumstances.

“The University of St. Thomas has accepted the resignation of Mario Enzler on Friday afternoon,” spokeswoman Sandra Solis said in a statement. “He’s moving on to the next chapter of his life.”

Sims told the Houston Chronicle that he became angry when he revealed Enzler’s alleged background, especially working for a Catholic institution that should value fairness and truth.

Ramon Fernandez, a permanent assistant professor of accounting, said he was concerned about the process, and the university leaders behind it, which led to Enzler’s appointment.
