The last scenes of Batman Introduced the franchise version of Joker, played by an unidentified Barry Keoghan in hiding behind bars in Arkham. The character only appeared in one brief scene, but director Matt Reeves quickly revealed that there was a much longer scene in which Keoghan’s Joker appears from earlier in the film that was left out of the final edit. He explained that the scene will eventually be released on its own. What no one realized was that Reeves and Warner Bros. planned to reveal the scene shortly after the movie debuted.
On Thursday, Reeves and the studio released the entire scene online, for a longer look at famous villain Keoghan. In the scene, Batman approaches the prisoner for advice on dealing with the Riddler. It’s immediately obvious that the two characters already have an established relationship, with Batman putting the Joker in Arkham in the first place. “I thought he would be really insecure about this and might want to find a way to get in [Riddler’s] mentality, as in Manhunter or Mindhunter — the idea of profiling someone, so you can predict their next move,” Reeves explained. In the movie, audiences only get two minutes with Keoghan’s Joker, and his unique appearance is hidden behind shadows and prison bars. Cinematographer Greg Fraser recently talked about putting the sequence together.
