Aaron Rodgers couldn’t be happy that Marquis Valdes-Scantling, a former wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers, signs a multi-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs at his free agency.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers lost another wide future to the AFC West, this time with Marquis Valdes-Scantling taking the bag from the Kansas City Chiefs.
While part of him should be happy, Valdes-Scantling made big money for the first time in his NFL career, another part may be wishing the Packers’ Copper Packers would take care of the talented wide future. Valdes-Scantling has joined the former Packers wide squad outside of Davante Adams as new additions to the AFC West. Adams reunites with his former college teammate Derek Carr on the Las Vegas Raiders.
Factor in the previously released Packers pass-rusher, Za’Darius Smith has signed with rival Minnesota Vikings and there are no guarantees that the NFC North will pass through Lambeau Field next season.
Aaron Rodgers must have been so hot that Marquis Valdes-Scantling signed Chiefs
With Rodgers deciding to return to the Packers for another season, one would have thought Green Bay would be ahead of the line when it came to this year’s NFC competitors. Although they could still be, who would Rodgers throw the football at right now? He could deliver it to Aaron Jones with no problem, but his receiving corps took one crushing blow after another.
The Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions are rebuilding, but the Vikings loom large in the division. The good news for Packers is that they are clearly playing at the weaker of the two congresses. They have plenty of time to sort things out with Rodgers’ new receiving corps for a pigskin rifle to him. Of course, the cumulative relationship between him and Valdes-Scantling and Adams takes a heavy toll.
Ultimately, Rodgers and the company must adjust accordingly. One can only imagine how tough the team would look if Rodgers decided to retire or wanted to trade. The good news is that it will bring back its strong, reliable ending, Robert Tonian. He signed a one-year contract to stay with Green Bay, as he was on his way back from an injury at the end of the season. At least Rodgers has a Tonian.
Expect the receiving Packer Corps to be significantly different from those in previous seasons.
