After a year’s delay, WB Games Montréal has finally announced the release date for the upcoming Bat Family title, Gotham Knights. The game is scheduled for release on October 25, 2022, which coincides with the ninth anniversary of its first major title, Batman: Arkham Origins.
The news comes on the heels of a series of leaks earlier this week, which hinted at a release window in April. Reports also indicate that a playtest version of the game has been uploaded to Steam. According to PCGamesN, only one person has already started playing it, after which, the game was removed. The file size weighs around 82.41 GB, which is the record that gamers of this generation should expect.
The Gotham Knights were last seen in October 2021, during the DC FanDome, where the studio showed a story trailer featuring the penguin and the legendary court of owls. Despite the similarities to the original Batman: Arkham games, the title is a minor reboot that focuses on the remaining family.

The story takes place sometime after the death of Bruce Wayne, where you take control of the Bat family – Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and Red Hood, to try to restore order in the chaotic streets overrun by fickle criminals. The main antagonist this time is the Evil Owls Court, an ancient criminal organization that is watching from the shadows as it sends evil talons to disrupt your activity.
However, the 2020 trailer did highlight the gameplay elements – starting with the removal of the franchise’s free-to-play combat system. Instead, Gotham Knights get a treatment similar to an RPG (role-playing game), where there is a leveling and progression system. Elements like the grappling hook and stealth mechanics still remain, while the game adds a partner to the mix.
Players can team up with another member of the Bat family through online co-op and inflict double takedowns on unsuspecting enemies. Single mode is also possible, although you will be joined by a teammate controlled by artificial intelligence.
Gotham Knights launches on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam.
