Netflix to Air Bob Saget Comedy Store Memorial

After comedian Bob Saget unexpectedly passed away, countless tributes poured in from a variety of sources, as The Comedy Store in Los Angeles held a star-studded tribute to the artist back in January. Mike Bender, one of Saget’s closest friends, recently revealed to Dystopia tonight! with John Poveromo The podcast was purchased by Netflix special, although the official release date on the streaming device has not been revealed. However, the event is said to premiere at Netflix’s first-ever Is a Joke Fest, which will be held in a variety of Los Angeles venues in late April.

In addition to being a tribute to the late comedian, the event was also a fundraiser for the Scleroderma Research Foundation. The party was hosted by Saget’s close friends John Stamos, Jeffrey Ross, John Mayer, Jim Carrey back, Chris Rock, Jackson Brown, Michael Keaton, Jon Lovitz, Seth Green and Mike Young, Full house Vet Jodi Sweetin, Paul Rodriguez, Bender, and Byron Allen.

Sagitt’s widow Kelly Rizzo shared after the event, “Honoring my legendary and wonderful husband on stage at The Comedy Store where he began his career over 40 years ago has been the honor of my life. I know he would have taken a big kick being on stage supported by Jim Carrey, Chris Rock and Jeff. Ross, John Mayer, John Stamos – I know that made him smile big.”

Ross shared, “After Bob’s fancy funeral, we dumped an impromptu rocky little Sheva at the Comedy Store. We laughed and cried for four hours. Tonight we’ll do it again in the main hall for his friends and family. If Bob ever made you smile while you were in your heart or wallet, Please donate to the Scleroderma Research Foundation. It’s a terrible disease that mostly affects women. Finding a cure is a task that means a lot to Bob personally.”

Between the star-studded tribute lineup and the few tickets made available to the public, it was definitely an event that fans of the comedian would be delighted to see.

“Being respected in the stand-up comedy world was everything to Bob. The outpouring of love and respect he received on Sunday night at The Comedy Store really proved that he was at the top of his game!” Stamos remembers. “He would have been so proud to see the celebration we put together for him. Chris Rock, Jim Carrey and Libney Raquel produced. John Mayer and I have put together a jam band. Jeff Ross, Jackson Brown, Darren Criss, many of whom are family and friends – hope you see it someday Mike Bender is working on a special. But for now, the honors and memorials are over. And we face, head-on, the harsh reality of going through life without Bob, his love, and his laughter. It won’t be easy.”
