Released earlier this month, it’s the star power of Netflix Adam’s Project It has dominated the charts in the past two weeks since its release, with star Ryan Reynolds celebrating the milestone by sharing a brand new poster for the movie. Sci-fi adventure gravitated toward Amblin films from the ’80s, so this new poster leans more toward family-friendly adventure films from that time, replicating the look of popular posters by artist Drew Strowzen from that decade. In the movie, “After an accidental landing in 2022, time-traveling fighter pilot Adam Reed teams up with his 12-year-old self on a mission to save the future.”
Director Shawn Levy and Reynolds previously explained their intentions to tap into feelings of nostalgia to capture the spirit of films from that time.
“It’s definitely a return to a dynasty of nostalgic Amblin films which, to me, epitomizes what I want movies to be: full of adventure and hopefully fueled by desire, but also funny and warm,” said Levy. “The truth is, I feel like our storytelling and our filmmaking have evolved to a point where there are popcorn escape films or there are films about big ideas that resonate and are important. But the films we loved from the past somehow were able to be both. Back to the future he is one. ET. It is something else.”
Reynolds added, “Nostalgia is the greatest drug on earth and this film is a very big stride in the current footprint of those films in that there is a complete absence of narrative irony, an abundance of exclamation mixed with comedy and dynamism, and honest punches sheer emotion.
