E3 2022 has been canceled, and will return in 2023 as a personal event: ESA

The Entertainment Software Organization (ESA) revealed earlier this week that E3 2022 has been canceled entirely to “set a new standard for mixed industry events and fan engagement.” E3 is the biggest video game show of the year and was a virtual event last year, and before that it was an in-person event. However, there will be no E3 at all this year.

The European Space Agency had previously told partners that E3 would not take place this year, after initially making plans to bring the show back in person to Los Angeles due to the pandemic.

According to a report by diverse. We previously announced that E3 will not be booked in person in 2022 due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19. Today, we are announcing that there will also be no digital E3 in 2022.”

The ESA also added that it “will dedicate all of our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized E3 physical and digital experience next summer. Whether you enjoy it from the auditorium or your favorite devices, the 2023 Show will bring society, media and industry back together again in an entirely new format and interactive experience. We look forward to to bring E3 to audiences around the world straight from Los Angeles in 2023.”

E3 was last canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic and in 2021 a virtual version of the event was held for four days between June 12 and June 15. The last physical event was E3 2019, which gathered 66,100 people in Los Angeles. The convention center is in downtown Los Angeles according to the European Space Agency.
