A Utah woman dies after a 20-foot fall in Grand Canyon National Park

GRAND CANON NATIONAL PARK, ARIZONA – A Utah woman who was on a private boat trip has died after falling into the Grand Canyon, authorities said Tuesday.

National park officials said 34-year-old Margaret Oswald of Salt Lake City was near Camp Ledges along the Colorado River on Monday evening when she fell about 20 feet and was fatally injured.

Authorities said Oswald went up the valley to meet a river cruise at Phantom Ranch and was on the sixth day of a private boat trip.

The accident is being investigated by the National Park Service and Coconino County Medical Examiner’s office.

A park spokeswoman said four people, including Oswald, have died this year inside Grand Canyon National Park.

A Colorado woman died in March when she fell into the cliffs of whitewater while on a private boat trip.
