But during a recent event, it turns out that the Internet got their thoughts mixed up.

The whole thing came to light when Takayuki Hirao did an AMA on Reddit for fans. There was the manager behind him Bombo: the cinephile It took on one scene from the movie that became a viral meme. After all, one clip from the movie shows Natalie doing a thumb dance like the one in the picture It is an electronic gamebut it turns out that the director did not pick up the movements from the game.

Really, it looks like a group from Japan promoted the dance and caught Hirao’s attention in this way. So if you are hoping to find it It is an electronic game Easter eggs in this anime, you can think again.

“I am amazed that this dance is such a popular meme in America,” the director shared on Reddit. “In Japan, the iine-or dance is called “thumbs up.” A couple of years ago a band called DA PUMP released a song called “USA” and everyone was performing the dance in Japan. Nathalie tends to express her feelings with her body. So when she’s confused or nervous, she dances. And because the song is called “USA” and there are a lot of American references in the movie, we thought it would be perfect. So it would be a tribute!”

For those curious as to which artist tackled dance first, DA PUMP wasn’t. The Japanese group included the boogie in a music video filmed in 2018. The moves were first shown in the “Shoot” music video by BioBoy JB in 2017. The choreography went viral after a long time, and Fornite adopted it as a sentiment. And now, Hirao has immortalized the viral moves in one of the best anime lately.
