At any given time, there are a few different Dracula projects all over Hollywood. Nick Cage Renfield Production was recently completed, and Chloe Zhao was hired to write and direct a vampire feature for Universal. Karen Kusama was about to lead another reimagining called Mina Harker, although this project has now been postponed. On Monday afternoon, reports surfaced that the producers had informed those associated with the project that they would no longer be filming it.
According to a report from Limit, the creative split between the Blumhouse and Miramax executives grew, leading to the film’s shelves. Filming for the project was scheduled to begin next month before Miramax exited the project.
The film was to be set in present-day Los Angeles with blindness Star Yasmine Sivas in the lead role. Dracula would also have appeared in the film, given that the script from Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi used Bram Stoker. Dracula as her primary inspiration.
Kusama has become a much sought after filmmaker in Tinsel Town due to her recent work on Showtime’s success yellow jackets. She was also producing the project alongside Jason Blum, Hay, Manfredi and Miramax’s Bill Block.
“It’s a fairly faithful adaptation of the Bram Stoker novel,” Kusama previously revealed to Kingcast. “I think something gets overlooked in adaptations Dracula In the past it was the idea of polyphony. In fact, the book is full of different points of view. The only view we can’t access, and all mods that make it accessible, is Dracula himself. So I would just say in some ways, this would be an adaptation called “Dracula”, but probably not the same kind of romantic hero we’ve seen in the past…in earlier interpretations of Dracula. “
For fans hoping to see more of Dracula, it looks like a Zhao version is still in the works.
“I’d love to have the question mark at the end – ‘Western science fiction’?” Zhao previously joked with diverse When addressing the unconventional description of the new movie. “No, I like it. It’s like looking at Jessica Broder’s book [Nomadland], to really see beyond the pages, to discover the meanings and essence of each page. I am a big fan of the book. And I wanted to see the essence that I could find [in Dracula]and then be able to reimagine this really lovable character that I love so much.”
