Johnny Depp takes action in Amber Heard’s defamation trial

Johnny Depp stood Tuesday afternoon in a defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, saying he had focused on “clearing the record” regarding allegations of his involvement in domestic violence.

Depp said, “The truth is the only thing I care about. Lies won’t take you anywhere, but lies build on lies and build on lies.” “I’m obsessed with the truth.”

While being questioned by his attorney, Depp denied that he had engaged in violence with Heard or any other woman.

Heard accused Depp of hitting, strangling and kicking her on several occasions over the course of their relationship. She also alleged that Depp sexually assaulted her once during an altercation in Australia in 2015. Depp and Heard divorced in 2016.

In December 2018, Heard published an opinion piece in the Washington Post in which she referenced her earlier allegations, although she did not identify Depp by name. Depp sued her for $50 million.

Depp testified, deliberately speaking at the witness stand: “I felt it was my responsibility to stand not only for me in that situation, but to stand up for my children.” “I thought it diabolical for my children to go to school and to be approached by their friends or people at school by the cover of the infamous People magazine with Mrs. Heard with a dark bruise on her face.”

Depp said the allegations against him are “outrageous and deeply disturbing” and “not based on any kind of truth.”

Depp also testified about the physical abuse he suffered at the hands of his mother when he was growing up in Kentucky, saying she would throw things at him and hit him with high-heeled shoes.

Depp’s testimony is expected to continue on Wednesday.

The trial is set to run through the end of May, and Heard will also have a chance to testify in her defense.
