Britney Spears Lawyer Refers to Father ‘Bullying’ in Court Documents

As Britney Spears’ battle continues in court, her attorney asks a judge to prevent her father, Jimmy Spears, from accessing files from a private investigator hired by the pop star’s legal team to help investigate his administration of his 13-year-old daughter. Guardianship, which he largely supervised.

Spears’ father requested records from Kroll, the PI company brought in by the singer’s lawyers. Now, the star’s lawyer is asking the court to cancel his attempt, as they point out his continued “bullying” and his refusal to appear due to his testimony.

In an application filed this week, the singer’s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, asked the court to limit Spears’ “larger subpoena for production of commercial records issued to Kroll Associates” that is not affiliated with the party. Rosengart writes that the summons for his client’s father is “extremely excessive, burdensome and unnecessarily unjust”.

In new court documents, Rosengart said Spears’ father failed to appear three times due to his testimony, and is now contesting his removal in Los Angeles because he resides in Kentwood, Los Angeles, the pop star’s hometown.

“Mr. Spears can escape, but he cannot hide from his testimony forever,” Rosengart wrote in the lawsuit, adding that he would impeach his client’s father in “any city or state, including Kentwood.”

“I have been honored to represent Britney Spears and seek to protect her from further trauma and abuse. In this regard, we respectfully acknowledge that a decent father, a father who truly loved his daughter… would put his daughter’s interests above his own,” Rosengart says in the documents. “Such a father shows grace and decency and stops bullying and harassing his daughter. Even if he disagrees with the evidence of the trauma and abuse she has been subjected to… this is what a ‘loving’ and ‘protective’ father would do.”

Spears was under guardianship for 13 years after being placed under one in 2008, with her father serving as her guardian.

In September 2021, Spears’ father was suspended from his daughter’s guardianship, less than two months before the guardianship ended last November. Even with the termination, contentious court proceedings between the pop star and her father remained ongoing, regarding legal fees – which he demanded his daughter pay – as well as accusations of wiretapping in his daughter’s bedroom and other alleged inappropriate behavior throughout the guardianship. .

Rosengart has publicly pledged to fully investigate the behavior of Spears’ father and the singer’s former business manager, Tri Star Sports & Entertainment, who has accused him of “procrastination” in his attempts to obtain information for his client and rescind subpoenas filed by the star’s legal officer. a team.

But Spears’ father has consistently denied wrongdoing and has defended his handling of his daughter’s finances. He has stated that his “only motive was his unconditional love for his daughter and his fervent desire to protect her from those who would try to exploit her”.

Recently, the singer objected to paying her mother’s legal fees, which totaled more than $660,000. Her mother, Lynne Spears, says she hired lawyers to help her daughter, and claims that her life began to change when she intervened a few years ago. However, Spears still cares very much about her father’s behavior and requests. This week’s filing from her attorney stated that “Mr. Spears should cooperate … and tell the truth, rather than blackout and stall.”

Simply put, Rosengart wrote, Spears’ father should “leave his daughter alone, and move on.”
