Will Smith’s Oscars Finally Get His Words On ‘Red Table Talk’

Jada Pinkett Smith’s talk show, “Red Table Talk,” returned Wednesday, and despite having a brief message to viewers, hinting at the topic on everyone’s mind, the series avoided The Elephant in the Room: Oscar Will Smith’s slap.

The episode began with a silent black screen and an introductory letter signed by Pinkett Smith who thanked viewers for joining.

“Given everything that has happened in the past few weeks, the Smith family has been focused on a deep recovery,” the letter read. “Some of the discoveries about our treatments will be shared on the table when the time comes.” The message continued, “Until then…the table will continue to present itself to testimonies as powerful, inspiring and healing as those provided by our amazing first guest.”

The first guest was Janelle Monae. As soon as her conversation began on the table, the Oscar saga was not mentioned in the episode.

There was no word on whether MonĂ¡e’s conversation was filmed before or after the Oscars, but insiders said diverse That some of the season of “Red Table Talk’s” was filmed before the Oscars.

Wednesday’s episode of “Red Table Talk” was originally scheduled to air in the morning at 9 AM PT, but instead a last-minute shift has been made for its release later in the day at 12 PM PT. diverse I reached out to the show’s spokesperson to inquire if the time change was due to a possible last-minute entry of Pinkett Smith’s letter, but no response was immediately received. It’s not clear when the creative decision was made to include the message in the episode, or if there were any plans to address the Oscar slap in the episode, if any.

“Red Table Talk” on Facebook Watch hosted by Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow Smith, and her mother, Adrienne Banfield Norris. The three multi-generational women interview superstars and engage in candid conversations about the broadcast series that has won Emmy Awards and six NAACP Image Awards, among other awards.

While Pinkett Smith promised viewers that “some discoveries about our recovery will be shared on the table when the time comes,” no further details have been released about whether that means her husband will actually appear on the talk show for an interview. Or whether women will take up the saga simply by saving the environment.

Last month, the Smith family were at the center of the biggest controversy in Academy Awards history when Will Smith took to the stage and slapped presenter Chris Rock, who made a joke to Pinkett Smith’s account about her shaved head. Pinkett Smith has been open about her struggle with hair loss due to alopecia. After the shocking moment, he won the Best Actor bust, marking the first Oscar win of his career, and spoke of the slap in a long, weeping acceptance speech, though he didn’t apologize to Rock on the podium. (He did later, by way of a statement.)

The saga resulted in the actor’s resignation from the Academy with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ board of directors barring him from attending the Academy Awards for the next ten years.

He apologized and said, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision,” but he did not speak at length about the incident. Many suspected that he would eventually sit down for a larger TV interview, and some questioned whether he would stop his silence at “Red Table Talk” with Oprah or elsewhere.
