Gearbox Software and 2K Games announced that a new game in Tales from Borderlands The series is now in development. Originally released during 2014 and 2015, Tales from Borderlands It was a casual adventure game developed by Telltale Games that was set in the world of Borderlands. The game has become a fan favorite among Telltale’s library of titles, but it looks like the spin-off won’t likely return after Telltalle initially shut down in 2018. Now, though, Gearbox seems intent on bringing the series back itself.
Gearbox was announced as part of PAX East today, and revealed that it is developing a follow-up to Tales from Borderlands internally now. This pseudo-sequel is said to be released in 2022, but it looks like it won’t be picked up after the events of the last game. In a statement presented at PAX East (transcription via jimatsu), Gearbox president Randy Pitchford spoke more about the studio’s desire to create new stories in the Borderlands universe. “Because of the success and our love for TalesBecause of our interest in developing Borderlands The universe in new ways, we thought it would be fun and exciting to dive into the interactive fantasy format again,” Pitchford explained about this new game. This time, we’re doing it to imagine all the new characters and characters new stories from Borderlands. […] We’ve been secretly working on this experiment for many years. And I can’t wait to announce this brand new game this summer and show you all what we’ve been up to.”
