David Zaslav says Warner Bros. discovery “won’t increase spending to drive subscriber growth”

In the wake of the news of Netflix’s shocking loss of subscribers in the first quarter of the year, David Zaslav notes that Warner Bros. Discovery “won’t overspend to drive subscriber growth” during Discovery’s first-quarter earnings call on Tuesday.

“As you heard me say, we’re not trying to win the direct-to-consumer spending war,” said the WBD CEO, promising instead that the newly integrated WarnerMedia-Discovery would “intelligently invest in scale.”

Zaslav said their total of 100 million live subscribers gives them “a real choice over time to drive strategic decision-making.”

WBD Netflix was not mentioned by name during the presentation.
