Netflix collaborates with the Indian government for the short video initiative

As India celebrates 75 years of independence, Netflix and the country Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, to honor real-life stories of extraordinary women through a series of short videos titled ‘Azadi Ki Amrit Kahanian’. The initiative was launched on Tuesday, with the presence of Anurag ThakurMinister of Information and Indian Broadcasting.

Bella BagariaPresident of Global Television, Netflix, who was also present at the event, said: “Great stories can come from anywhere and be very inspiring when they are about people facing hardship. In partnership with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Azadi ki Amrit Kahanian focuses on celebrating outstanding individuals and their stories that can inspire people in India and around the world.”

Narrated by the acclaimed actor Nina Gupta (Badhaai Ho), the short videos depict the journey of these individuals and how they broke the glass ceiling in their fields of specialization, from science to sports. It features Harshini Kanhecker, India’s first female firefighter. Basanti Devi, ecologist and protector of the Kosi River ecosystem; Vaccination Champion Poonam Nutial; Tessie Thomas, the first female scientist ever to head a missile project in India; Anshu Jamsenpa, the world’s first woman to climb Mount Everest twice in five days; Arohi Pandit, the first woman to cross the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans alone in a light sport aircraft; Tanvi Jagadish, the first Indian woman to practice stand-up paddleboarding.

The videos are now available on the social media platforms of the ministry and the Indian state radio station doordarshan.
