David O. Russell’s new movie “Amsterdam” shows Taylor Swift in the stills

David O. Russell’s latest movie is finally in the spotlight, revealing the title “Amsterdam” and its November 4th release date at CinemaCon.

Led by John David Washington, Margot Robbie and Christian Bale, the piece has been described as an “original crime-romance epic,” according to Disney CEO Tony Chambers, who presented the film to the US movie theater owners conference on Wednesday.

Released under the 20th Century Studios label, not much is known about the project from the directors of “Silver Linings Playbook” and “The Fighter” except for the sprawling cast – which includes Taylor Swift, Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, Michael Shannon and Robert De Niro.

Amsterdam occupies a strange and mysterious world in the 1930s, as the leading trio of Bill, Ruby and Washington find themselves at the center of one of the most secret plots in American history.

With facial scars and wild hair, Bill’s character looks noticeably softer than the gritty characters Russell usually likes to make him play. Brunette Robbie and Washington’s affectionate around the trio do well, as they face escalating danger (and lots of drinking and dancing inside).

Swift appears as the daughter of a blacksmith, breaking down in tears before her father’s body as Rock looks on.

“You have a dead white man in a box. It’s not a coffin, it has no lid,” said Rock as Swift sobbed. “You know who would get in trouble? black men.”

Additional cast includes Timothy Olyphant, Alessandro Nivola, Matthias Schoenaerts, Andrea Riseborough, and Mike Myers.
