Now, as Luffy continues what might be his last fight against the leader of the Beast Pirates, a crucial flashback appeared in the final chapter of the manga, showing us one of the most heart-wrenching moments in Momonosuke’s life.

Accused of rebuilding the Kozuki clan, Momo was reluctant to proceed with leaving his mother, but Kinemon implored Oden’s son to follow through:
“If you’ll forgive me for saying that, in the wake of Lord Odin’s death, you’re not just a child anymore. If I could speak freely, would you give us another chance to fight? If our lives were to be given up only to the flame, we’d rather perish for our own, and pray In our hands. Will you allow us to die as a samurai?”
Momonosuke agrees, tears are running down his face, as the current battle sees Oden’s son carry the weight of the island on his shoulders.
