Heartstopper, ‘Stranger Things’ Hold Strong on Twitter

Netflix’s “Heartstopper” continues to be #1 on the chart diverseTrending TV chart for the week of April 25 to May 1. The series, which debuted at number one last week after dropping on April 22, attracted more interactions this week with 1.05 million additional shares on Twitter.

The eight-episode first season follows high school student Charlie Spring (Joe Locke), a teenager who falls in love with classmate Nick Nelson (Kate Connor). The story is based on Alice Oseman’s LGTBQ graphic novel and comedy of the same name. Fans are already calling on the streaming service to renew the show for a second season, while others are discovering the series or rewatching it to catch previously missed details.

“Heartstopper” wasn’t the only show Netflix had to celebrate this week. Stranger Things continued to generate anticipation with fans ahead of its May 27 comeback, jumping three spots into second place with nearly 300,000 shares this week. Part of that interaction was related to a report that Netflix allegedly dropped $30 million per episode for the new season — a staggering amount given the link’s recent financial woes.

When the series returns for the first part of the penultimate season at the end of the month, the story will end six months after the end of the third season of 2019. Robert Englund (“A Nightmare on Elm Street”), Sherman Augustus (“Into the Badlands”), and Mason Dye (” Bosch”) are among the many new cast members in Season 4.

Once again at number three on this week’s chart was the penultimate episode of “Moon Knight” on Disney+ with 245,000 shares. With only one episode in the six-part series, fans have taken to Twitter to dissect the latest twists and speculate about the upcoming ending of the limited series.

On Starz, the season finale for “Outlander” garnered over 122,000 entries for a fourth place as fans lamented the short season and reacted to the “amazing” finale, “I’m Not Alone,” which featured EP Maril Davis and stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona crash Balfe for diverse.

“Outlander” was previously renewed for a seventh season, which will be based on the seventh book in the Diana Gabaldon series, “An Echo in the Bone.” Because of COVID, Season 6 has been scaled back to eight episodes, but the upcoming installment doubles that with 16 installments as a result. That marks the longest episode of the series since the first season, which was also 16 episodes when it debuted in 2014.

Netflix returned to represent the fifth slot on this week’s chart with “That ’90s Show,” which is expected to premiere later this year. Elsewhere on the chart, The CW made waves with “Batwoman” and “Legends of Tomorrow” at number six and seven. The unexpected cancellation of the two series in the past week has upset many fans, who have taken to Twitter to express their grief and sympathy.

With the series cancelled, the only DC shows left on The CW are “The Flash,” “Superman & Lois” and “Stargirl,” which will begin its third season later this year. Meanwhile, the network has also requested a Gotham Knights pilot from Chad Viveish, James Patrick Stotero and Natalie Abrams.

Back on HBO Max, “Our Flag Means Death” was ranked number one at number seven with over 53,000 shares as more fans discovered the series and others invited the streaming service to rerun for a second season. The comedy debuted in March and tells the story of an aristocratic ship captain turned pirate, Stead Bonnet (Rhys Darby). The series is loosely based on an actual character of the same name.

Finishing this week’s chart is AMC’s “Better Call Saul” with 47,000 shares after a new episode on April 25, and “The Kardashians” at 10th with 43,000 shares as the inaugural season continues to show Thursday nights on Hulu.
