Disney Streaming Hires Devika Chawla From Netflix, Meta Arun Chandra

Disney Streaming Services, which operates Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and Star+ services globally, has hired two seasoned tech experts — Devika Chawla of Netflix and Arun Chandra — to take up senior roles.

Chawla (above left) to Disney Streaming next week as Senior Vice President of Lifecycle Engineering, after a decade of building Netflix’s global customer communications products and teams. Most recently, she held the position of Director of Engineering, Messaging and Communication at Netflix.

Chawla will lead Disney’s initiatives to “improve customer journeys, interactions, and retention” on Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and Star+. In this position, you will lead the strategy and roadmap for all global customer communications, working closely with the Group Data team along with business and regional leadership in the EMEA, Latin America and Asia Pacific regions. Chawla will report directly to Shaun Curtis, senior vice president of services and data engineering at Disney Streaming.

Chandra (above right) to Disney Streaming this week as Senior Vice President of Viewer Experience. Four years later he joined Meta, where he was most recently Vice President of Extended Operations. Chandra will manage the company’s viewer experience teams, partner management processes, support channels, and audience insights for subscribers across Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+.

Chandra will report directly to Alyssa Bowen, Executive Vice President of Commercial Operations, and will work with Disney’s technology, product and data teams to develop viewer experiences.

The two executives are the latest leadership appointment from major tech companies to join the Disney Streaming team last year. In March, the group appointed Jeremy Doig, an 18-year-old veteran at Google, as its chief technology officer. Disney Streaming last summer hired Ajay Arora, who previously worked at Netflix and Amazon, as senior vice president of products, commerce and experimentation.

Chawla, in a statement provided by Disney, said: “I am very excited about the huge potential and impact of elevating consumer lifecycle experiences across Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and Star+ globally. The opportunity to build global teams, technologies and products of this scale amplifies the stories created at Disney. It’s a huge opportunity. I look forward to experiencing the magic and adventure of Disney.”

Chandra commented, “I am proud to join Disney, a company that is constantly innovating to delight customers in the digital and physical worlds. It is so exciting to have this opportunity to expand the best-in-class viewer experience team for Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and Star+.” and to provide an exceptional experience to all our viewers around the world.”
