Google Assistant in Chrome for Android can change stolen passwords automatically

At last year’s I/O developer conference, Google announced a new assistant-powered feature for Chrome to help users easily change hacked passwords. The feature is now finally rolling out to users in Chrome for Android.

The new assistant-supported feature displays a popup notification once you sign in with a password found in the data breach. As shown in the attached photos (via Max Weinbach), the notification states: Chrome has found the password you just used to hack the data. The Google Assistant can change your password automatically.

The notification also includes two buttons – one to close the popup and one to change the password automatically. Clicking the latter will take you to a new page containing a confirmation sheet that states the following: “To help you complete tasks, Google will receive the URLs and contents of sites you use the Assistant on, as well as information you send through the Assistant. This information may be stored in your Google account. You can turn off the Assistant in Chrome settings.”

tapping onI agree’ The button on the confirmation sheet will take you to the change password page for the service in question. The page also includes a sheet at the bottom to track progress where Google Assistant generates a new password. After the assistant generates a new password, you can accept it and save it in Chrome’s password manager. If you encounter any issues during the process, you can take over at any time to change the password manually.

It is worth noting that this feature was first rolled out to a few users last November. It now appears that it is being rolled out on a larger scale. If you haven’t already received it, it should arrive on your device in the next couple of days.

What do you think of this new feature that Assistant supports in Chrome for Android? Do you think it is useful, or would you rather change the hacked passwords manually? Let us know in the comments section below.
