‘Caliphate’: Season 4 writing is about to end, says author

The writing process of the fourth season of the popular HBO series “Succession” is nearing completion, creator Jesse Armstrong has revealed.

Matthew Macfadyen won a supporting actor at the Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards in London on Sunday for ‘Succession’. McFadden was unable to attend to accept the award. Armstrong received the award on behalf of his representative and later met with the press behind the scenes.

“We’re almost done writing season four, here in London, with American writers coming in,” Armstrong said. “They really are a great group of people to talk about the nuances of character, the world, and what we do on the show.”

Armstrong described the writing area as a “Spaces Meet WeWork” meeting room. He said that once he’s got it all for the season, he’ll share it with the cast and get their feedback, because he’s “helpful, they’re smart, and they think about things about their character.”

Addressing MacFadden’s win, Armstrong said, “Matthew is just a likable guy. Since it’s his night, I’m not ashamed to say it’s always been a pleasure working with him,” adding that the actor always has a “meticulous response” to the material.

“He can do anything as an actor,” Armstrong added.

There has been much speculation about the future of the “caliphate”. When asked how long he could watch the show, Armstrong said, “I’m not going to answer that question accurately. I don’t think it should last forever. But we’re still having fun right now.”
