Before I saw Doctor Strange 2 in theaters, I was one of many who watched the trailer for Avatar 2 (aka Avatar: The Way of Water). And unless you’re among the many who’ve seen the latest MCU movie, you had to wait until today (May 9), as the above clip was a play-exclusive. Or at least this is the first appearance of the official version of the trailer (we bet some people downloaded copies over the phone).
The footage above, taking audiences back to the world of Pandora, one of the moons of the planet Polyphemus, where the Na’vi people prepare for war. In the clip, we see Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), as well as the flying Toruk.
We also see a new type of creature that is similar to the Avatar version of the whale world. Torxes fly over the calm blue waters of Pandora, and at the end of the clip, we hear Sully say “I know one thing: This family is our fortress.”
Analysis: So, why should people care about Avatar 2?
The above trailer might be exciting for fans of the first chomps. The movie hit staggering numbers at the box office, and continued to do well after Avengers: Endgame temporarily stole its crown — when 2021 release in china Help him get up again.
Having said that, when I saw this trailer, I gave no reason to actually consider going to see Avatar 2. The teaser trailer is boring, and gives us little to think about beyond the Fast & Furious-style reminder that family is the most important thing.
Avatar has been killing at the box office many moons ago in 2009 because its approach to making 3D movies has been so revolutionary. But now, 13 years later, Avatar 2 doesn’t seem to offer much that fans don’t get from other 3D versions of blockbuster movies.
On top of that, its story (its weakest part) seems pretty slight based on this teaser trailer, and we have no good reason to care other than the fact that the water in Pandora makes us want to swim.
