Google reissues and launches automatic summaries for long documents

During the Google I/O 2022 conference, Google CEO Sundar Pichai introduced a “new” feature that would bring automated summaries to Google Docs. Although announced as new, the technology was previously presented Back in March 2022 for business users. Regardless, the technology is pretty cool, using machine learning models to analyze data in order to pull key points out of documents. It is undeniable that this could be a game-changer, save countless hours of reading, give people access to only the most important details of a document, and is now rolling out to regular users as well.

How is all this possible?

Simply put, by taking advantage of artificial intelligence and machine learning, Google can break down text, extracting only the most relevant points. According to Pichai, this type of behavior requires AI to understand long syllables, compress information, and generate natural language. It’s a very complex process, to say the least, as Pichai provided insights that this kind of machine learning behavior wasn’t possible until a short time ago.

But wait there is more!

Relying on the same technology for Google Docs summarization, Google also announced that its summarization feature is coming to Google Chat in the near future. Within the next few months, users will be able to get useful summaries of conversations and a look at the main points of their conversations. Google is also looking to bring transcription and summarization features to Google Meet. This will not only allow users to keep up with meetings at a later time. But it will also give users a new way to experience future meetings.

Google says that automatic summaries will be rolled out to Google Chat next month. We’ll make sure to let you know as soon as the feature starts rolling out to all users.
