Family of Frida Kahlo and BTF Media Partner for Television Series Production.

The property of famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo has partnered with Miami-based BTF Media to produce a television series based on Kahlo’s life and work.

Kahlo has been the subject of a large number of films, documentaries and shorts. She was most famously portrayed in Julie Taymour’s 2002 Academy Award-winning biographical film Frida, starring Salma Hayek who earned a Best Actress nomination for her portrayal of the artist.

The Kahlo family, represented by Frida Kahlo Management, has partnered with BTF Media founders Ricardo Coeto and Francisco Cordero and with Hector Martinez, co-executive producer to co-produce the series inspired by the famous artist’s life.

According to Mara Romeo Kahlo, granddaughter of the painter’s sister, “The series seeks to portray Frida like you have never seen her before. The goal is to provide a unique perspective based on what her family knows about her and to show how she really lived her life,” she stated.

“Frida was known for her colorful selfies. Her self-portraits had different themes, such as her identity, the human body, and death. She was considered a hero to many because she did not allow society to access her; instead, she used her struggle as her strength,” Coito agreed.

Alfonso Duran, General, added: “This project will allow Frida to showcase as a woman whose art represents empowerment, hope and strength, and will allow her family to share with the public how her legacy continues to inspire thousands of people around the world.” Director of Frida Kahlo Management.

The series, with each episode, will reveal different unknown aspects of Kahlo’s life and work, which the family hopes will reveal the Frida they knew. Specific details of the project will be revealed at a later time.

As one of the fastest growing Spanish language media companies in the drama series scene, BTF Media has forged multiple alliances with Latin American, Hispanic and Hispanic companies. In 2020, it opened an office in Chile in an effort to tap into the country’s rich pool of talent and intellectual property. Collaborated with Hernán Caffiero, the creator of Intl. Emmy Award-winning “The Suspended Mourning”, to open office in Santiago.

The producer of such a breakthrough as Juan Gabriel’s biopic “Hasta que te conocí” also has outposts in Mexico, Argentina and Spain.
