New Ecobee Thermostat Leaks With Alexa and Siri Support

When you’re looking for information about upcoming devices but it hasn’t been announced yet, everyone knows you should head over to it Canadian tires. No, really, of all the retailers coming out with a new one, here we go. As highlighted ZatsNotFunny and reddit themeEcobee has a new model thermostat Premium and Enhanced for what it looks like.

Looking first at the Premium, this sounds like a replacement for the current flagship Ecobee thermostat. There appears to be built-in support for two voice assistants, specifically Amazon Alexa and Apple’s Siri with microphones to talk to. But what appears to be new on the agenda is air quality monitoring, with one presentation showing the thermostat recommending opening a window to improve ventilation.

The user interface appears to have been improved, with the temperature appearing a bit larger on a “vibrant screen with a cinematic interface.” Yes, we have no idea what that means either. Supposedly, marketing is talking about “sounds really cool”.

If the Canadian tire listing is accurate, the Premium model goes for CAD$330, which is about $250 in the US, which is a decent ballpark compared to the current flagship model. You can’t buy one, of course, but there’s also no indication when you can either.

The improved model appears to be a replacement for the current Lite model, although less information is available at the moment. It seems to take advantage of the same updated interface but since that interface didn’t come from a store listing, there isn’t much to go by. Both current models expected to replace are not currently available in the Ecobee specialty store, so a launch may be imminent.

While Google Assistant users may be less enthusiastic, more competition isn’t a bad thing at all. It’s a tough arena to be in now, although the likes of Nest and Amazon are able to bring prices down. It would be interesting to learn more about these two new organizations and why you want them.
