9-1-1: Lone Star Really balance the sweetness of the moment with the humor, with Carlos waking up, frightened that Dang’s alligator lizard has slipped again (thank God that thing only lasted one episode). It’s so important to have this kind of story on national TV right now – especially with the endless amounts of anti-LGBTQIA+ bills trying to get passed in multiple states in the US. To have this kind of representation at the forefront is absolutely imperative.
Ronen Rubinstein also said it was a pivotal full-circle moment for his character, who was reeling at the start of the series from a disapproving post. After TK’s suicide attempt and overdose, it was important to be the one to apply to Carlos. Rubinstein also agreed with his co-stars’ feelings about the importance of watching this story on TV right now, and said the entire crew understood just how important the moment was:
The crew were really on the edge of their seats, and it was a really beautiful moment that day. I think everyone knows the weight behind what’s going on – right outside the show, what it means to show a mixed-race, gay, first responder couple getting married and eventually getting married. It’s a big problem for network television, especially with the climate we’re in right now in the country. It was really a really multi-layered scene of a really multi-layered relationship. I am so excited to see another extraordinary step in the Tarlos saga.
