The MCU is growing faster than ever, thanks to Disney Plus, with three new shows hitting the streaming service this year. The Moon Knight is over, Ms. Marvel is arriving next month, and now it’s time to see what She-Hulk has to offer in their first proper trailer.
Well, technically, it was renamed She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Judging from what we saw in the trailer, the newly minted She-Hulk (aka Jennifer Walters, played by Tatiana Maslany) will have to balance her work life with superpowers thriving with a Hulk flavor. Pretty much in the same lane as for a superhero origin story.
Fortunately, superheroes run in the family, as Walters’ cousin is Bruce Banner – the hero Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) with an equally emerald. If you’re having trouble mastering explosive transformations into a giant green angry monster, there’s no better person to talk to.
But if all “green” isn’t enough, Walters is tasked with heading up her company’s newly formed super-law division. Given that Walters is a defense attorney in the comics, it makes sense for the show to see her defending all kinds of supernatural powers in the courtroom.
That includes longtime Hulk villain Emil Blonsky/Abomination, apparently still in prison after the events of The Incredible Hulk. This indicates that the show likely took place before his appearance as an underground fighter in Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. The fact that the Hulk’s right arm is still intact, which was not in Shang Chi’s final credits scene, may even indicate that She-Hulk happened before Avengers: Endgame.
We even got a glimpse of the Z-list hero of Marvel Frog-Man. He is literally a man who wears a special frog suit, which gives him the ability to jump great distances. Marvel has some really weird characters in its back catalog.
The humor that She-Hulk comics are known for, including a shot of her cuddling one of her dates as a baby, also appears in the trailer. There’s also some of the worst CGI I’ve seen on a Marvel project so far. I can see the logic in using CG to make Tatiana Maslany taller and more powerful, but her quality is a less weird valley and a more weird valley.
Thankfully, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law arrives on August 17th, which means there’s still three months left for Marvel’s special effects teams to get it right.
The series stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Tim Roth as Emile Blonsky/Abomination, Jamila Jamil as Superbelline Titania, and Ginger Gonzaga as Amelia as Walters’ best friend. Benedict Wong will also return as Wong, a Supreme wizard who appears to be a mainstay of the MCU’s Phase IV.
