Ava DuVernay, Lauren Ridloff, Joshua Jackson, Development by Starz Romance

Starz has announced that Ava DuVernay is developing an untitled romantic drama, which she will executive produce alongside co-stars Lauren Ridloff and Joshua Jackson.

The series will follow two polar opposites intertwined in a love affair that turns their worlds – and the worlds of everyone around them – upside down. The half-hour drama will chronicle what it takes to fall and stay in love with a rebellious radical. One person is ambitious and the other is restless. One is willing to commit, while the other is discussing the merits of relationships. One is black and the other is white. One is deaf and the other is not. Although they are very different, they are emotionally and physically attracted to each other despite personal expectations and general assumptions. Their attraction severely disrupts notions of race, gender, class, physical ability, and normative culture, and elevates them to true love that transcends difference.

The news was announced at the opening of the #Take_Stars Summit on Alliance and Representation.

DuVernay will oversee writing for the series through her own distribution company, Array, and her overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. Array Filmworks and Warner Bros. will Television is producing the project for Starz. Senior Vice President of Original Programming Kathryn Teos will oversee Adair on behalf of STARZ.
