The Jack Ma Biopic series is in the works at Oble France

“Jack Magic,” a biographical series about Jack Ma, the colorful co-founder of Chinese tech giant Alibaba, is in development at French production house Opel. The series is based on Duncan Clark’s bestselling book “Ali Baba: The House That Jack Ma Built”.

Details of the series such as the start date, director, final distributor, broadcaster or operator were not revealed. But Opel said it will work closely with Clark, who is providing ongoing advice and ideas.

Published in 2016, “The House That Jack Ma Built” charts Ma’s epic rise from a humble English teacher to a highly successful institutional giant, who epitomized China’s booming economy and internet market. In 2014, Ma and his team oversaw the largest global float in history) on the New York Stock Exchange.

However, in 2020, he infuriated the political establishment with comments about regulating the fintech sector. Within days, another initial public offering of Ma’s spinoff Ant Group was called off, on government orders. Over the past two years, rarely seen in public, he has lost his chairmanship of Alibaba, and quit his African educational charitable foundation.

None of this affected his iconic status and international reputation, both of which are potential thorns in the side of the Beijing regime. Despite his current split from Alibaba, reports that Chinese police this month arrested a man with the same surname have wiped out $25 billion from Alibaba’s market valuation.

Jack Ma’s life story is fascinating but not well known in the West. He is an unlikely business champion and was among the first in China to understand the potential of the internet and who against all odds were able to harness it, bypass regulations and beat Silicon Valley giants to build a local champion,” said Hugo Brisbois, co-founder of Oble. In celebrating the innovative mind of a passionate man, we sympathize closely with him, as an ambitious young team.”

“From his remarkable life story and what it tells us of rapid change in China to his lasting imprint on China’s economy and culture, Ma has in recent years become a victim of his own success, and his company has been targeted by a government eager to reassert its power,” Clark said. “Jack Ma has been an inspiration to entrepreneurs,” Clark said. and investors outside of China’s shores, yet his story is not well known by the broader public.”

Oble is an international production and distribution company. He describes himself as “acting at every stage of creation, from developing a concept to its international financing as well as producing and processing sales around the world”.
