Anna Delphi, the notorious prankster who traversed the upper echelons of the art world before being arrested and arrested for grand theft, finally opened her art gallery on Thursday.

At last night’s opening, the Delvey Drag vocalist performed lip-synching, wearing her heavy, black-framed business glasses. Then, models wearing nylon masks stomped around the bar holding Delvey’s drawings. But is the art world really ready to take it back? Delvey is represented by the relatively unknown Chris Martin, co-founder of Founders Art Club, whom he described in a previous interview as “an advisory body and a group of influential collectors.” But according to Guttermann, it was mostly the press that attended the event.
At the end of the night, Delphi appears suddenly – almost, that is. Showing her yellow prison outfit and saying hello, she answered interviewers’ questions while winking the phones to pick up a piece of the New York legend for their social media accounts.
Although Delvey may have originally been part of the private elite, she seems to have found herself a nice alternative: the celebrity circus. But she doesn’t seem ready to give up on her dream.
“I cut corners and did illegal things, I made mistakes and eventually went to jail for it,” Martin said. “But this time she is trying to enter the art world in a different way – as an artist. She clearly has the talent.”
When asked if he thought people would support her in her latest endeavors, Martin said, “The art world is a funny place…there are people who are more open, you know, to these alternative concepts of the new age, and then there are the traditional old school fairs and art people who will take Some time to let their guard down. I think this was just the first step in her new journey as an artist.”
It’s a long game. Currently, Martin and Delphi are waiting for her to get out of prison. Once that happens, Martin plans to outfit her with studio space and materials. “Then we’ll see what she can do,” he said.
